Tradition and Succession

"襲名" (Shumei)  is a customs to inherit the name of the predecessor, such as ancestors, parents. The letter "襲" includes the meaning of "overlapping". In the world of Kabuki, names of actors have been passed down from generation to generation together with the role, acting style, and spirit.

Three latest generation of the Koraiya family announced to "襲名" in 2018. The Koraiya with the actor's name Koshiro has succeeded their spirit of tradition and innovation for over three hundred years. Our aim was to embody the fact in the ceremony exhibition.
